John T. Scott

John T. Scott was a MacArthur Genius Grant recipient. He drew from the indigenous Afro Caribbean roots of New Orleans. He was formally trained at Michigan State University and at Xavier University where he spent the next forty years as a faculty member.

John has worked in a variety of forms and media-woodcuts, serigraphs, calligraphy, paintings, drawings, sculpture and kinetic sculpture. He draws inspiration from a variety of sources of African and African American history as well as the blues and jazz inflected influences of New Orleans.
